The future drives electric

The EU has set itself the goal of becoming climate-neutral by 2050 – a joint effort by all member states. Around a quarter of the EU’s total greenhouse gas emissions relate to the transportation sector. As a result, electric mobility is becoming increasingly important, as recent studies show. A lot has happened since the first electric car – here is an overview:

How it all began

At the 1900 Paris World’s Fair, the Lohner-Porsche was presented as the first car with an electrically driven wheel hub motors. The vehicle developed by Ferdinand Porsche had two 2.5 h.p. motors and a top speed of 37 kilometres per hour.

New car registrations

1.5 million battery-electric vehicles (BEV) were registered in the EU in 2023. Of these, almost one in four newly registered e-cars in Europe was on the German market.
