MIRA at Digital X in Cologne

Digital X is one of Europe’s leading events when it comes to digitalization. In Cologne, corporations, medium-sized companies, start-ups and politicians exchange ideas about current technological developments and megatrends. More than 70,000 visitors registered this year. The Rheinmetall subsidiary MIRA GmbH from Düsseldorf was one of the partners of Digital X for the second time in 2023.
Teleoperation demonstration
During the two-day fair, MIRA colleagues presented the spatial decoupling of driver and vehicle using teleoperation. At Rudolfplatz, visitors – including Telekom CEO Timotheus Höttges – were able to experience live how reliably and safely the teleoperator maneuvered the passenger van through public traffic in Bonn-Beuel.
The vehicle is controlled via 5G mobile communications. The driver’s station includes several large screens, a steering wheel and pedals. In the process, the vehicle transmits live images from several high-resolution cameras. MIRA technology can be used, for example, in short-haul logistics, for the control of on-demand shuttles, or to deliver sharing vehicles and rental cars.
